The success of Pork Traders Oakwell Ltd can be traced back to many years in the pork processing and production business, during which time the members of this still family-owned business have accumulated a vast amount of knowledge and experience, thanks to sheer hard work and a singleminded determination to be the best in the business.
The founder of our company, John Ellis Morphet, started in butchery in 1916, at the age of 13, learning his trade thoroughly before opening up a number of shops, as well as running a small slaughterhouse and a fleet of three delivery vans. As the business grew, it embraced pig-rearing, large-scale slaughtering and the inclusion of a number of associated local businesses, including Pork Traders (Liverpool) Ltd - and E. V. Davies, from whom we inherited the Oakwell brand of black puddings.
The sons of John Morphet joined the family business in the 1950s, since when they have continued to be at the heart of the organisation’s success. In the 1970s, due to constant expansion, the retail side of the business was sold, whilst the remaining elements of the business were consolidated into one major business complex. Consequently, our Netherley headquarters now include our curing and production facilities, as well as our administration centre and delivery fleet headquarters.
Relying on our past for the skills it has taught us, our company is, nevertheless, focused on the future. So we are combining state-of-the-art equipment with traditional expertise in order to produce the highest-quality products in a highly competitive market place.
